A History of Troop 8

Troop 8 was originally chartered in 1931 by the Trinity Lutheran Church Men's Club as the sponsoring organization.  After a brief hiatus, Troop 8 was reestablished by the Men's Club in 1999.  The Men’s Club believes strongly in the values of Scouting and they are great supporters of our troop.  Our adult leadership is committed to ensuring the scouts receive a quality experience as they learn and grow into young men. We follow current BSA policy and procedure to provide the quality you expect and your sons deserve.  Troop 8 is a boy led troop as much as humanly possible.

The Mission of Troop 8

Scouts BSA, Troop 8, was formed to serve boys by instilling the values of the Scout Oath and Law, preparing them to make ethical choices over their lifetime, and enabling them to achieve their full potential.  Our goal is to have every scout achieve their First Class rank in their first year.  Earning the Eagle rank is the ultimate goal, but it is important that the scout enjoy the journey and appreciate the accomplishment.

When do Scouts and Parents meet?

Scout Meetings:

Troop meetings are typically held on Mondays, starting at 6:45 pm, and lasting until about 8:00.  During summer months (June, July and August), we usually meet every other Monday.

Each Scout is required to have a Boy Scout Handbook.  Scouts should bring their Boy Scout Handbook to Troop meetings.  Aside from being very informative, the Scout Handbook is used to track the boy’s achievements and advancements.  As advancements and merit badges are earned, the Advancement Chairman, Scoutmaster, or an Assistant Scoutmaster will record them in the Scout’s handbook.

Parent Meetings:

The Parent's Committee meetings are held on the Monday after the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.   A successful Scouting program REQUIRES both active Scouts and active parents -- Scouting is not a spectator event!  We expect and encourage all parents of Troop 8 Scouts to attend and participate in the committee meetings.  So please, stop by, get informed, get involved, and ask questions!
